“I’m a general contractor and was looking to build a new single family home but did not have a builders license and was trying to find a good and reputable builder to handle the project . I reached out to a few builders including Geiss custom home builders and within a short period of time cliff Geiss returned my call he was professional as we discussed the project. “I had the pleasure of working with Cliff, the owner of Geiss Custom Builders for my new construction home in Short Hills. Although I was a little (lot) nervous about taking on such a big project, I was recommended by a friend who had used him for a large renovation project and had only good things to say about him. He was able to guide me through the entire process from start to finish and made the whole process both easy and pleasurable. He showed a great eye for detail and whenever an issue come up, he was able to use his experience to come up with a solution right away. I had compared him to some other builders in the area and he was able to offer a very competitive price. Another big plus was that he only uses high end subcontractors – each of them were friendly and extremely professional and went above and beyond to ensure a good product was done at the end of the day. At the end of the project we were able to walk through the house and he made sure that every seam, tile, floorboard was in perfect shape behind handing the keys over to me. I incorporated a lot of custom features and he was able to execute all of these items perfectly. He even ziptied all of the wires so that they were neat and tidy, and hired cleaners to keep the site clean both during the project as well as the very end. Most impressively, he was always available for any questions I had, even after hours. Asking around town, he has an excellent reputation, and I was told by his other customers that he remains available even after the final product is delivered. There is really no reason to look elsewhere, you should pick this guy.”

“Cliff at Geiss Customer Builders is a skillful, honest builder in an otherwise opaque industry. We interviewed multiple general contractors, most came in the same ballpark for price. Cliff has an impeccable reputation in the area and we really wanted to go with Geiss Homes. Cliff could have easily taken the job, a nice profit, and been on his way in a few months. My mother has an architectural background and was involved in the plans of the construction. Knowing this, and the fact we were on a tight budget, Cliff recommended we manage the project ourselves using his vendors. Cliff visited every week, acting as a consultant and making sure we weren’t missing anything. He checked in on the vendors to make sure we were getting fair prices, he reviewed changes to the job, helped us brainstorm solutions to overcome unexpected hurdles, and was available every day by phone. As a young couple with a baby, every penny counts. Cliff did right by us, he saved us a boatload of money and still got us into a beautiful home. We are forever thankful.”

“I've lived in Short Hills for over 20 years and have watched Cliff build beautiful, well-constructed houses. When we started hunting for a new home, my hope was to purchase one of Cliff's houses or to have him build one for us. Unfortunately, the market was too strong and Cliff's houses sold too quickly and we were outbid for all the land sales. We ended up buying a spec house from a more unknown builder. Five years after our home purchase, our basement flooded. Even though Cliff wasn't our builder, he immediately came to detect the cause of the problem. Cliff's years of experience working in Millburn/Short Hills area has made him an expert not only in the local building requirements but also in the geology of the area. Cliff was able to find a quick solution that prevented additional flooding when we had inches of rain several weeks later. When rebuilding my basement, Cliff's workers were efficient, professional, and showed great pride in doing the job correctly. Cliff also has helped me resolve water coming in through the roof, and he has been a great overall resource for all things house-related. “I wanted to give a glowing recommendation to Cliff and his team (Gil and Danny!) for building a fantastic home for us in Short Hills. My wife and I have been looking at the tri-state area and for a while did not consider building. We met Cliff and it turned out that the process isn’t as complicated as we feared. In this initial meeting he explained everything very clearly, showed us organized timelines, budget details etc. Not only he did the above, in a few days he followed up with what ended up being a perfect plot for us -walk to the train, backing into the local Arboretum and perfectly sized for the type of house we wanted to build as well as in a true “wonder years” neighborhood. Cliff and his direct team as well as the vendors he worked with were extremely helpful in our process of getting a variance (not an easy process) and we were off to the races in August 2016. During the process, we always felt informed, involved and due to very good communication with Cliff and his team, we ended up moving into our house earlier than anticipated (May 2016). Cliff has a very well-oiled machine running when going through the build process and every person he connected us to (architect, cabinet vendors, flooring, electric, etc.) were professional and responsive. He told us, as long as you order things and make your decision in the timeframes we set out, you will be all right and we were. Lastly, the final product is amazing. The quality of work is superb, Cliff and team dealt very well with any final changes we had during the build process (you want finished basement now, no problem… you want to move this wall…no problem). It was an amazing experience to be able to design every room and area of the house to our liking and view how we will use in the future. Cliff also often suggested ways to save money and we appreciated that as well. His team ended up helping us move our stuff into the house too and one other area I’d like to highlight is the service that Cliff provides after the house is finished. Moving from NYC, we knew nothing about homeownership and if anything in the house needed a bit of love in the coming years (including paint touchups, additional electric work, lose handle on cabinet door etc) – his team was there almost right away and helping us out – amazing service. I would highly recommend Cliff and his team, your experience will be amazing and the final product even better!
